Lots of new exhibits are being simultaneously prepared in the new Mineral Forming Environments gallery. I'll post more pictures of that when the labels start going in.
In the meantime...

New exhibits continue to be installed at the museum. Here is a case dedicated to museum founder Prof. Arthur Edmund Seaman. The museum started in 1902 under his care.

The new exhibit for fluorescent minerals is now being installed. It will be in a larger space than in the old museum. Here are some images just to mark the progress.

Who put that on exhibit... Say- look who it is from.
Actually, the graphite crystals from this prospect can be exceptionally large (over 4 cm) and are quite well formed. They occur in seams of greenish coarse-grained calcite. Mr. Coupal even published a little booklet about graphite in 1920.

In the mineral forming environments exhibit, the pegmatite case is almost finished. (Sorry no labels in this photo). Some of the specimens are new, but some, light the blue-cap tourmaline, (Pala King Mine) on the center shelf at the left, date back to the early years of the museum.

Specimens are now being installed in the exhibit of fluorescent minerals. A preview of the short-wave cases is stunning. Unfortunately, today we found that one of the power controllers for the lights is not functioning properly- even though it did fine during testing two weeks ago. Tech Support was wonderfully helpful in diagnosing the hardware problem.
I'll be shipping it back for repair...

These two cases will have the introductory parts of the fluorescence of minerals program along with an animation on a computer screen at the upper right. The leftmost case at the top has fluorites in long wave UV; the lower left has a variety of minerals that fluoresce in short wave UV, and the case at the right will have a variety of other minerals in long wave UV. The other three cases out of view to the right will all have Super Bright short wave lighting.

This whole thread is so inspiring! What a beautiful case this one is. Thank you for continuing to tell the story in photos and sharing the museum with us!

Best wishes,
Elise

Also part of the new gallery on mineral-forming environments is an exhibit on minerals as chemicals. This will set the stage for viewing the nearby cases on pseudomorphs and oxidation-zone minerals.
