Hi John,

This "colorful Chalcedony, Atlas Mountains?" is actually from Sidi Rahal, El Kelaâ des Sraghna, Marrakech, Morocco:

An important era will come to an end this week at the A. E. Seaman Mineral Museum with the retirement of our esteemed curator Dr. George W. Robinson. A reception was held on June 5 in his honor at the museum with lots of friends and colleagues attending to wish him and his wife Susan well. Congratulations and best wishes to both of you. [New exhibit cases are in the background of the reception area.]

Congratulations to George. There is no doubt in my mind that George has been one of the very finest curators in the game. His career has been exemplary and could easily serve as a model for other curators. In addition to that he has benefited, as have the museums with which he has been associated, by having a great wife and companion who has selflessly worked side-by-side with him.

Way to go George!

John W.
I heartily agree! He has been a great asset to the museum and a good friend. I'll miss
seeing him for lunch regularly, but look forward already to Rochester next year (snow or not).
Please see the nice tributes to him in the latest issue of Rocks and Minerals-
Who's Who in Mineral Names, and the Carnegie Medal!

Congratulations George!
My warmest and best wishes.
John

Copper Country Mineral Retreat!

For many years, the Keweenaw Peninsula of Michigan has been host to mineral collecting retreats sponsored by various organizations, businesses, and the museum.
The 2013 Copper Country Mineral Retreat will be held August 5 - 11. Registration is still open at:
https://www.museum.mtu.edu/copper_country_mineral/index.html
(link normalized by FMF)

To celebrate, here are a few of my favorite silver specimens in the museum's collection.

Thanks Jordi and Antonio. Now that I'm done with teaching classes for the summer I'll try to post some other of the museum's specimens more frequently.

Calcite crystals from the Lake Superior Copper District are wonderful- especially
when they contain copper inclusions. These specimens are stunning.

The museum has over 1,000 specimens from the collection of Professor Arthur Edmund Seaman. This stephanite is one of the best specimens in his collection.
