The great Jeff Scovil comes to our aid and he supplied a new image for Kentucky.

Thank you Jeff!

PostPosted: Dec 29, 2018 10:49    Post subject: Re: A mineralogical trip through the states of USA - Kentucky

The well known Hall's Gap road cuts on Kentucky route 27 in Lincoln County produced some of the USA's best known Millerite. Honessite and Pyrite could also be found in the geodes from there. This locality was very heavily collected back in the 1970's through about 1990. It became a dangerous locality as there was an overhang over the geode producing layer at the roadside. Then the site was posted. Then, about 10 years ago, the road was revised and the road cut was contoured and eliminated. It is now an extinct locality; no specimens have come from there in more than 25 years. Recently, prices have climbed significantly on the better specimens. The geodes were very small to medium in size with no really large examples.

I never had the chance to collect there, so here are a few examples that I acquired. BOB
