Wow! Just like the phlogopite flakes I've been finding in basalt, but 100 times larger! :)

Thanks Glenn :)

Once I have enough money to do so I would definitely do that! Can't even imagine how great it could feel digging these gigantic beauties out of the ground!

Excellent finds Glenn. Are the crystals naturally etched out as found? I'm guessing there must have been calcite between them.
Thanks for sharing your photo's, it must be every collector's dream to have a skarn deposit like that in their back yard!

Cheers,
Mike : )

Hey Mike, in the past I have etched out some good Spinels but this last batch came out just like you see them. I just gave them a good scrubbing and a couple of hours in iron out

Wow! I was looking around online because I'd heard from a friend about some very large and interesting crystals coming out of this area, and I was researching a bit for a possible day trip to the area... All I can say is wow!

They are some truly amazing specimens you've managed to find! Congrats! Much more variety than I would have thought, and the sizes are truly world-class! Thanks for sharing your finds! It's very encouraging that specimens like this are being unearthed!

Glen,
Some really nice recent finds! We found some very similar specimens many years ago and these combinations are classic. I miss digging Amity so photos of your discoveries are much appreciated.

Glenn,

Would you have any interest in trading for herks and letting me and my digging buddy come down for a day? I'm in Albany. I sent you a PM but as a new member I think it won't go through for another 10 days!

Is that spinel in the previous photo with clinohumite?

Hi, Glenn:

Great photos of clinohumite, spinel & phlogopite from your incredible site!!!!

Nice to see that some of that clinohumite comes out looking gemmy & fairly well crystallized.

I came away with some pretty nice spinels & phlogopites, but all of my clinohumites are really rough & dull.....takes a lot of imagination to "see" them as crystals.

Enjoyed that collecting day so much and always look forward to seeing you again.

Warmest,

David

Hi Glenn. What is happening to this property? Will the development eventually end your mineral finds? I hope not! Regards.

Hi Pierre ,
Unfortunately for my building business, the economy in our town is bad and I don't see it getting any better. The taxes are way too high and school enrollment is way down as well as property values. We originally bought 42 acres with a house about nine years ago. We subdivided it into seven lots and built a spec house six years ago and can't sell it. Last year we sold the old house to reduce our payments. Paid over 40 k in taxes for five years, couldn't do it any more. I guess on the plus side, if everything sold I would have lost all the fun digging for the last few years.
If I hit the lottery I'd buy the hundred acres next door, the digging is even better. Lol
