Could Gail or someone explain the Robison "Cast" pieces? are these some sort of mineral replacement as in a limb cast?

They are very cool...

Is a thread here opened by Jim Robison: "Dolomite casts -Tsumeb" -> https://www.mineral-forum.com/message-board/viewtopic.php?t=1422 with not too much answers. Hopefully we can re-start it...

PostPosted: Mar 06, 2011 16:43    Post subject: Re: Gail Spann's Version of a Tucson show report 2011

Well, my flight was cancelled, so am flying to Washington DC later tonight now...so can take the time to answer here.
I will ask Jim Robison to elaborate on his casts. He is such a sweet man!

The 50 years of Tucson is a wonderful book on the history of the show, from dirt floors to the modern facility. But mostly it is the people, many of whom are still around. This was a major inspiration for me to do my show reports with so many people. The Mineralogical Record asks me for my photos every year. I just take the card out and download onto their computer at the main show.
They understand the importance of keeping photo records of events and people. I am always with camera, you never know who, and what, you will find worthy of a snapshot.
I keep a 16 GB card in my camera too, so never worry about taking too many photos.
I put about one fourth of my shots on the show report. So you can imagine how many I store on memory sticks and external harddrives.
Anyhow, I don't think they have any hard cover ones left, but they might have softcover?
I am just thrilled that I have about 80 new signatures in the one they presented me.
The first was Dave Wilber and the second was Peter Bancroft, not too shabby!

I will bring it again next year, Robyn...would love for you to sign it!

Actually - the link to the Mindat conversation was excellent! I took a photo of his display but not his signing so I was wondering what he finally went with as an explanation ;-)

I agree the faces behind the specimens and collections never seem to get the credit they deserve. Would love a copy even a soft cover - is it through the MinRec website?

How cool almost like a Tucson Gem Show yearbook! ;-p

Thanks for the info Gail - hope your flight works out!

I moved the post of Jim about casts to the thread "Dolomite casts -Tsumeb" -> https://www.mineral-forum.com/message-board/viewtopic.php?p=16733#16733 to keep both threads more coherent.

Thank you for your fine post Jim!

The 50th anniversary issue is fantastic (though the pages are falling out of my copy!) Really is amazing how many people have been involved for so very long. Probably one of my favorite issues - except for the damned binding! Anyone else have this problem?

Have finally downloaded the photos taken by Cindy.
Cindy does the official photography for the East Coast Gem and Mineral show and many other Marty Zinn venues. She was at the "Meet the Curators" event and took these shots. Thanks Cindy!!!

PS...there are quite a few, so will add as I can find the time.
