PostPosted: Mar 28, 2011 10:46    Post subject: Older (1960s) Mexico localities

I am going through some material I picked up in an old collection, and am trying to pin down some of the localities. All this material came out in the late 1950s to earliest 1970s, and most probably was brought out in the 1960s. If anyone has any ideas, I would appreciate the help.

Based on prior posts, this is the Bocoyna Mine, Cerro Las Minas, Guadalupe Victoria, Durango Mexico. Is the 1960s time frame consistent?

Do you know approximately when your Mina la Valenciana piece was collected?

Hi Bob,
re your question about time frame for the La Bocona hemimorphite: my specimen https://www.mindat.org/photo-361995.html is from the early seventies at least - so consistent,

cheers
Roger

Not when it was collected. I purchased it in early 1970s. Probably 72 or 73.

Great, so it is in the right time frame.
Thanks for the help.

The Valenciana label is probably the correct one. Some similar pieces have come out labeled as La Sirena Mine also in Guanajuato. The La Valenciana Mine has produced specimens for well over a hundred years but often the calcites were removed with acid if any damage was present. Production of specimens ceased when the mine flooded after heavy rains and the Cooperativa who owned it could not afford to pump it. It was then sold to Great Panther and I have not seen any plans to dewater it. They are currently focused on several other projects in the district.
The La Valenciana is also noted for the K-Feldspar Orthoclase var. Adularia that was called Valencianite. The 475 Level, Elefante Stope produced the specimens with Milarite.

The sphalerite might be from the Santa Eulalia District based on another source. Just looking for confirmation from one of the Mexico experts.
Thanks.
