Hart. This one had quite an impact, large slab of azurite from Chessy, France. Again another wall case specimen out for conservation work. Great lustre, crystals up to 3.5cm on edge.

Dick Bideaux once told me that if you want to see the best specimen, go to the Smithsonian. If you want to see the next 19, go to the British Museum. These photos certainly support that statement. THank you for sharing. This is in my top 10 things to do.

Jesse, I guess my confusion comes from the fact that I have seen and/or have owned many pink mushroom-shaped elbaites described as coming from Momeik, Burma (Myanmar). The source of at least some of these was Dudley Blauwet.

Many people have made this trip, the difference is I carry my camera with a 16 gb card, a full large battery and I spend ages taking photos to share. I like sharing what we have seen, many might not make this trip and perhaps this is a good way to see what is there. I haven't gotten to the cabinets in the hall yet, some of the minerals we saw there were outstanding!
This is a labor of love, so bear with me as I slowly sort and add photos.
And, just a good idea, we bring flashlights to all museums so we can really get a good look.
Some of the photos I have taken had Jim holding a light on them, which helped in my photography. And some we were able to walk over to the sunlight, supervised of course, to see them in the best way.
So, enjoy and it will only get better as Alan, Jolyon, Jim and I add commentary.
Right now, I am loading photos!

HART - Images can never really do justice to these proustites. The group was given to us by Henry Ludlam in 1880 after he purchased it from 'Steven's Sales Rooms, The Strand' for £200. The crystal at 10cm speaks for itself...amazing

HART - We have a good collection of Zabargad peridots. Our largest specimen is in the Vault, but this specimen has incredible colour and great history. Walker specimens are known to have a 'pedigree'. Originally from Heuland in 1833, who used an annotation of 'y's for rarity. I believe 4 'y's is top, the only other specimen I know of in the collection being a stunning Samson mine, Andreasberg pyrargyrite.

Thanks Gail!
I already had some talk with Alan and I nominated him as temporary moderator of this section, so maybe he will help, because now he can edit all posts. Of course if Jolyon and Jim want same skill just let me know and I will apply the same feature to they.
If we are lucky and some expert, like Alan, or someone knowing quite well the specimens, like Jolyon, could help adding more details to the captions of your great photos, then it could be an extremely useful thread!
Thank you again for the gift of your time and your energy.

Thank you Jordi, Alan has already agreed with my approval. He does his commentary with the word HART as the lead word. He has already done so. With all our help we can really make this a great write up, one that might entice folks to go see the real thing!

HART - Nice ruby crystal from Mogok, acquired in the 1930's. As per all Mogok rubies, has bright fluorescence.

I love that Isaac Walker label (with the H for Henry Heuland) for the peridote .. i am still not really familiar with his price code in the lower left but this should obviuosly read "invaluable"! ;-) .. the Walker specimens i handled/have seen are maximum 3 digits/signs (most only one ;-) ) .... great!!!
Please more of that stuff!
cheers
Roger

Some of our recent acquisitions. We lay them out not only for museum staff to see, but to let our Directors know what the money is being spent on, works very well all round.

HART - As mentioned before we layout our acquisitions for museum staff and Directors to see. Gives us a good overview also of our 'successes'.
Description: |
Rutile HART - Obtained this from Marco Tironi at Munich show. This specimen alone has made a real impact, aesthetic and always raises questions 'is it natural' 'how did it form' etc |
