HART - Two amazing specimens. The sphalerite from New Rosewarne mine, Cornwall was a larger specimen suffering extensice pyrite rot. This was removed, the specimen was treated and 'saved' before would have disintegrated. The spherical aggregates are typical for the mine, but are rare indeed - this specimen being our best example. The silver is an old time piece from the geological survey collections. It has been carefully etched to reveal the magnificent 'fronds'.

HART - Russell has an extensive witherite collection - seems he was rather enamoured with the species. Apart from the older material he acquired from various historical collections, he spent a lot of time underground, his best find being the unusual opaque barrel-shaped crystals (which have a sugary texture). We have most of the pocket he removed in the 1930's. Personally I like the pyramidal prismatic crystals on tabular baryte, great combinations (although be careful to look to see if they have been stuck on!).

Stunning!!!

"You had got the whole mineralogical world in your hands!!!" like the Gospel.

Thank to Alan Hart for his comments too.

Warm regards

I love this sinergy! If the photos were already exciting the adition of the Alan's comments make the set still more exciting. I believe that this kind of "joint venture" through private collectors and Museum curators is something new and in my oppinion, the result can't be more satisfactory.

I went in NHML twice recently and have now the opportunity to get this different overviews with the Alan comments added is just great.

Thanks so much Gail and Alan, you make me very happy (and I'm sure that also to many other visitors... ;-)

More, please!

Thank you Gentlemen. I appreciate any comments from Alan, Jolyon and Jim.
Kate too!
I have several hundred more shots, so not to worry. I will add as time allows. I think it's important to show that museums share the viewing of great minerals.
I was born in England, it's important to me to see what came from the underground on the Isle.
