Cheers Jon

Another photo from Jeff Scovil.

An intergrown cluster of 6 gemmy dark red orange translucent hexagonal doubly terminated Cerium rich Bastnaesite crystals ranging in size up to 20 x 18 x9 mm.

. We also have a cut gem stone to go with it, but no photo. This is featured in the What's hot in Tucson 2009 video, along with all others we brought to be displayed at the Westward Look.
This is one of five we own as we are quite taken with them.

Size 2.9 cm by 1.9 cm by 2.6 cm.

Well, seems we do have a shot of the Bastnaesite with a cut gem stone after all.

Cubanite crystal from Chibougamau, Quebec, Canada

I don't have the size handy as our file is on a computer that is traveling with my husband at the moment. will write in when he gets home.

Both Jim and I were drawn to this amazing Cubanite and were happy to add it to our collection. I often stop to look at it and admire it.

Jim and I will be displaying 53 cases of minerals at the East Coast Gem, Mineral and Fossil show on August 7,8 and 9th in Springfield, Massachusetts. We have been honoured with the featured guest exhibitor duties.
If any of you plan to come please do look for us and introduce yourself if we haven't already met?
And if we have met, then come say hello again.
We are also doing a talk on how couples can, and do, happily collect together.
We plan to have pieces from all the continents on display as well as sub suites we have a particular interest in, some mineral painting and some talk of provenance and how labels are important.
Cheers!

Although unfortunately I don't will assist to Springfield Show, I'm very pleased to know this new as well as your colaboration with Marty.

Hopefully he can arrange in the future one area in some of his Tucson shows to do the same there. It would be great for dealers, visitors and also I'm sure that you and Jim would get a great time sharing your collection with the myriad of collectors and amateurs who are regular visitors of Tucson Show. They would enjoy your display so much... like kids ;-)

Jordi

PostPosted: Nov 22, 2009 07:49    Post subject: Re: Gail's collection

Some inexpensive purchases that still delight and please me...

I was at a Mineralogical Association of Dallas meeting last night, our Guest speaker was Ray Grant from Arizona. Before the speech he had set up some minerals for sale, many were Thumbnail sized pieces.
The perky boxes are all nice, no scratches and the clasps were intact. I bought these:

Datolite from Keweenaw, price....$10.00
Vanadinite, Arizona...price $5.00
Smithsonite, 79 mine, Arizona..price, $8.00
Elbaite from Nepal, $35.00
Quartz and Fluorite from Az. price, $3.00
Azurite and Malachite, Morenci mine, Az...$20.00
Elbaite, Nepal ..price, $25.00
Vanadinite, Az. price, $8.00

Every single one of them is beautiful, gemmy, undamaged.
The Azurite and Malachite have perfect Azurite roses and malachite balls and is a welcome addition to our collection.
Jim chose the Elbaites for our collection, they are wonderful as well.

We feel as though we got good minerals for a good price, Ray was honored we bought them and we helped make his efforts worthwhile. Other folks bought quite a bit of his stock too. We filled a flat with other minerals that were not thumbnails and never felt we overpaid for a one.
We are off to the gem and mineral show in Mesquite, Texas today....I do hope I find some great minerals for a reasonable price there, which has been the norm.

Now to go catalogue my little beauties...
Cheers and Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

Dallas, Texas
PS...Les? We brought Ed and Terri along with us, hope to have them as MAD members soon!

Hi Gail,

Are those jewels for Adularia? ;-). I'm glad to know I'm not the only one who enjoys specimens no matter how much they cost.

It isn't about the price, it is about what makes me happy. Or what I can't seem to live without in my collection. Often that means it is something that might be very inexpensive yet highly enjoyable. And no, Adularia is too busy playing with his catnip mouse !

You know, I miss posting on here! I have been so caught up with life, family and bicycling classes that I realized I was going through FMF withdrawal.

Where was my head? You are all so fun, on top of being just downright smart. How could I have wandered off and not been more interactive with all you fine people?

Someone throw a rock at me next time I am quiet for too long, okay? I am smarting from the one John White threw at me today....ha ha! Thanks John, I missed you too.

Cheers everyone!
