PostPosted: Apr 25, 2008 10:58    Post subject: La Farga Lacambra Copper Museum and their fine Minerals

Within the Catalan industrial network, La Farga Lacambra (The Lacambra Forge) has always been one of those nuclei generators of wealth. La Farga has suffered, as all industries, good and bad times, but thanks to the tenacity of the leadership and the efforts of its workers have managed to reach 2008 celebrating its 200 anniversary (1808-2008).

His social imprint on the population of Les Masies de Voltregà (a small town located 80 km far from Barcelona) has always been very important, but now has gone one step further with the inauguration of a new museum: The Copper Museum (Museo del Cobre in Spanish, Museu del Coure in Catalan). This new facility will strengthen the already extensive network of industrial museums, some of them inside the Museum of Science and Technology of Catalonia (mNACTEC, https://www.mnactec.com). This Copper museum project, developed jointly by La Farga Group and the collaboration of the University of Vic, has meant an investment of around 4 million dollars.

One of the best attractions for the mineral collectors and visitors is the mineral exposition. The museum managers decided to show representative copper minerals. High quality mineral specimens, very specials, are displayed in the area where they explain about copper ores. As Fabre Minerals supplied the specimens, they also took pictures of them and with the permission of the Museum’s owners, they publish the photos here, to share with the entire forum these mineral wonders. You can enjoy huge Malachite from Congo, with well formed and distorted deep green stalactites. And Copper, with an interesting "question mark" form as well as other eye-catching minerals.

The Foundation has published a couple of interesting books. One is the guide of the museum: “El Coure. Conductor de la Història” (for the present only in Catalan language), and another about the 200 anniversary foundation of the company La Farga Lacambra.
