Thanks Roger. The most recent issue of Mineralogical Record was accompanied by a DVD of the Dallas Mineral Symposium, and one of the speakers was Brice Gobin, who talked about some of his experiences acquiring carrollites in the Congo. Scary stuff.

For today's post I would like to show a few of our specimens from Germany.

Hello Michael,
Yes I know that specialist. In fact I knew him as a boy, and his brother too when I was buying minerals from his parents.
Bravo, famous manganite. In Munich I had the opportunity to purchase a beautiful manganite from Ilfeld in the 80s, but I hesitated and I have not had a new opportunity.
Roger.
PS Do you know the paper of my friend Dr J. Lhoest in M.R.?

Roger,

Yes, I have read both articles in M.R. by your friend. Those articles about famous localities are why I am a subscriber.

Michael, I really like the zoning on your fluorite from Saxony. When I saw it my first thought was that it was from Cave-in-Rock.

Thank you Michael for showing some really nice samples of German minerals!

And Don, you're right: Looks similiar to Cave-In-Rock, but the zoning is also typical for Saxon fluorites. For example, look at this crystals from another mine in Annaberg District (especially the close-up picture):

Thank you Tobi. Our collection of minerals from Germany is quite small; I'd like to focus more on your country in the future.

Gwen and I enjoyed meeting you and Laura at Tucson this year.
