Hi Everyone,

Work continues developing the exceptional crocoite crystal pocket at the Adelaide Mine in Dundas, Tasmania.

To help document this find, Bryan Swoboda of BlueCap Productions was contacted to share this story with the public through video. In the Nov. - Dec. 2012 issue of the Mineralogical Record magazine (Vol. 43, No. 6) featuring a lead article by Thomas P. Moore and Wendell E. Wilson titled Major Crocoite Discoveries at the Adelaide Mine, Tasmania, a complimentary DVD of this exceptional discovery in its earliest stages of development was gifted.

Since this initial filming, as noted above, work has continued to develop this occurrence. To document these newest happenings, Bryan has made a second trip to the mine and has posted a new video taken only days ago of Bruce Stark and I recovering a beautiful crocoite crystal plate from off of the pockets hanging wall. By clicking the link below, you'll also be able to share in the fun!

Sincerely, I hope you enjoy. All the very best,

John

Well done John and Bruce, I like the recent 2013 crocoite from the Red River find as it has far better colour than most of the 2012 find. My collection has already improved from your guys effort

Cheers

Good job John! As a friend and working buddy at the Adelaide mine, I want to thank you for sharing this great pictorial guide of this exceptional find. Since you were here last, there has been more great stories. more outstanding specimens coming out, and a whole bunch of new challenges every day. And friends. if John ask you if he can play at your mine, you should let him....and go play with him!

Bruce,

You're not kidding about the new specimens.

Here are a couple of shots I just received showing more Crocoite specimens. If you compare to some of the previous images that were posted, you'll immediately see that the crystals look like they're getting longer and THICKER!!!!

I'm looking forward to the email I hope I'll get soon that will say, "Bryan, MAJOR new discovery. Get your butt down here with ALL your cameras!!!!"

Cheers!

-Bryan

That's right Bryan, that's what I'm facing now.. I only took those pics last week. And to show what a work in progress it is, let me share this profile of the cavity floor.. Above the glove is the usual debris of black rounded blobs with the large jagged dropped wall slabs.. Coming down to glove level, I took out a 6" layer of loose debri, consisting of mostly dirt and crocoite singles up to 4" long. Below the glove is a dirty mass of intersecting crocoite crystals up to 6" long. So what I'm saying is, there is at least an 8" layer of crocoite matrix holding up the crystals you just showed off above.. My aim is to get that 2' piece out, in 1 piece.

Hi Everyone,

Thanks for the great comments and the additional updates!!!

I'm totally all a 'twitch as I check-out these newest photos and read of the mine's newest thrills... What FUN!!!

Denver is coming up and we're working on getting Adam to the show for the first time. I can't wait to see the newest treasures... even if I didn't get to collect 'em! Great job Bruce!!!

I look forward to reading of your newest experiences and if really lucky, seeing the photos of your newest discoveries and developments!

This, the Red River find, is a true World Class discovery and that it is being so thouroughly documented, well heck, it just makes me very, very happy!

All the very best everyone, take care,

John

PostPosted: Feb 27, 2014 21:55    Post subject: Adelaide Mine Crocoite delivery in Tucson 2014

For the second year now, Adam Wright of the Adelaide Mine has delivered his entire shipment of crocoite to my house in Tucson (actually the house belongs to 79 Mine co-owner John Callahans' mom, Dorothy, from whom we rent it). this year's specimens were so much better than past shipments that I thought I'd share some photos of the unpacking. so here goes.
