Similar tourmaline (schorl) in aplite from Baltimore County, Maryland, USA, personally collected. In this case the schorl sprays are very tiny, about 5 mm in size.

Hi John
Do you know the formation or member the schorl came out of?

Hi Mark:

The schorl occurs in an aplite dike that transverses a preCambrian marble, the Cockeysville marble, in the Green Spring quarry, now closed.

Here is an historic smoky quartz !

"An old quartz specimen going back to 1916, coming from the Béhier collection and which was then bought by F. Barillet (1898-2003) which was chemical engineer and metallurgist for a large French company. He travelled much through France from his trade and established a systematic collection several thousands of mineral samples with a predilection for Brittany.
This smoky quartz specimen is interesting because it was found inside even town of Nantes (quarry of the "Green Room" ; carrière de la "Salle Verte" in french)".

Today, the quarry does not exist any more and is under the houses and the buildings!!
