Hello all! I am a collector from Austria. Born 1960, mineral infected 1974. Like most of you with too less space for the collection, too less money but too many minerals. I usually collect Austrian minerals, minerals from the old Austro-Hungarian monarchy, other old classics but new finds too. I also have a special interest in Spanish minerals as my Austrian mother also grew up in Madrid and Andalusia. There are so many aspects of mineralogy - i simply love all! What i also love is to take photos from my own samples - hope you like them! So i wish you much fun with it.....

I will begin with some Lazulites. Why? Because it is a classic Austrian Mineral! Type locality is Fressnitzgraben, Styria - but the very best come from Werfen area.

Hello Gerhard,

Nice specimens and good photography.

You are correct, the "mineral infection" we all have is a disease for which there is no cure.

Please keep posting your collection.

Regards,

Don

One of my biggest Austrian rarities: Gold wires on Uraninite! On the left side you can see a small mass of Cinnabar. The Gold wires in this area are 100 % natural Gold Amalgam! Very well documented find from around 1970. Biggest samples have more than 10 cm....

Mitterberg was usually an ancient copper mine since celtic times. But good crystals always have been rare. Also "common" Chalcopyrite crytals have been scarce!

Wilkomen Gerhard

Nice photos and don't let them discourage you. There are new antibiotics for mineral infections being developed every day. So there is hope! hang in there.

Hello Gerhard,
Greetings from Lower Austria to Upper Austria!

This discussion sounds like that we are all members of a sanatorium. ;)

Gerhard, I know, you have a lot of rarities from Austrian localyties, so I'm looking forward to see your photos.

Nice greetings and we will see us.
Martin

I think Herderite from this long abondand small quarry are probably europes best of this species. My friend Martin Rich has the largest: a 5 cm crystal of Hydroxyl-Herderite on small matrix. Usually we found the Hydroxyl varity, but also Herderite with more F than OH was confirmed.

Germany again: Boracite from a 19th century find. Ex K.S.Mineralienniederlage in Freiberg. Not too common in this crystal size i think.

Hi Gerhard!

Nice photos and specimens. Please, keep posting.

But remember that You can include up to 15 photos or images within each message, as recommended here. Including several photos in a single post is intended to prevent the system from sending too many notifications to the members, which is not any fun.

Many thanks for your newly open topic.
