Is that your own find?? That's a pretty neat geode and would love to find one myself someday.

What were the circumstances of the find, was it loose or was there digging involved?

Amethyst is by far one of my favourite minerals and this is fantastic, thanks for sharing it.

The only way that could have been found at Pike's Peak, is if someone lost it there or tossed it out of their vehicle. It's a typical "Mexican coconut" - formed in basalt or rhyolite in a vesicle (gas bubble). The mineral in it is quartz and in two varieties: agate around the rim, and amethyst crystals.

Ok fair enough, but still a nice geode, wonder how much one of those retails for?

It's a bit tricky to say without knowing the size of it, but assuming the geode is approx. 15cm across I would guess at 30 - 40 bucks retail, in a shop. Might get one cheaper at some mineral shows; don't know about Munich though!

Hi Folks,

Just a remainder. No money talks on FMF because it is not a commercial Forum. If you want to talk about it, thanks to use private messages.

Cheers

Christophe

PS: I agree not from Colorado
