Hi Mike, a very beautiful specimen! But I have a lot of doubt concerning the locality, actually I am sure it is not from Weidenstamm. As far as I know there were no aesthetic or at least well-crystallized samples of rhodochrosite from this mine. In fact, this is a nearly unknown locality (even in Germany) that never brought any collectible mineral specimen to the market.
I rather think this is from the famous Wolf Mine and that the black material is goethite. Sure no guarantee, but Weidenstamm seems almost impossible to me while Wolf Mine produced very similar specimens. We all know the deep-red ones, but Wolf produced rhodochrosite in nearly all shades of red and pink and in many shapes from scalenohedrons to botryoidal crusts to fan-like forms like that on your specimen. Also, the matrix and the shiny black material in the vug (= most likely goethite) would fit ...
I would say for a 99% not from Weidenstamm and for 95% from Wolf Mine.

[ADDITIONAL INFO]: I showed the photo to two other very knowledgeable collectors of German minerals, but their very different answers won't help: One said this could be from Solms and not from Wolf, the other said exactly the opposite :-/

Thanks, Tobi, for your expert insights on the rhodochrosite. The label listed manganite as the matrix, but it didn't look right to me. So I added as appears to be manganite in the file description. The dealer I got this piece from is usually very diligent regarding locality and mineral information. I will let them know that the locality is wrong on this one.

As I said, you can't be a 100% sure. I would note on the label "presumably Wolf Mine, given locality was Weidenstamm Mine". Or in German, Grube Wolf / Grube Weidenstamm.
But again, besides the locality problem, it's a gorgeous rhodo specimen, outstandingly beautiful. And no matter what locality it is (actually there are even some more localities in western central Germany that produced similar rhodos), it is for sure from an old German mine, mined at least 60-70 years ago, maybe 80 or more. A great collection piece!
(By the way, "Weidenstamm" means willow trunk)
And Wolf means wolf ;-)

| Pink topaz are quite unusual, but possible to find... But this quality! danmed! Even in isolated crystals they don't get better than this. A picture more oriented towards the C axis would reveal the depth and saturation of the color. Almost reddish from what I see
