Beautiful symmetric agate, the colour scheme reminds me of the ones from the famous German agate locality of St. Egidien in Saxony.
(Or, for those who like Lord of the Rings: It's also slightly reminiscent of the Eye of Sauron ;-))

Thanks Tobi! This specimen does seem very similar to the ones from the German locality.

Very nice German specimen and really something special. The Freiberg area produced a lot of minerals and is famous for many (fluorite, silver, galena, baryte, proustite, pyrargyite etc.) but well crystallized rhodochrosite from Freiberg is something you won't see that often. Did you get this from an older collection?

Yes this piece came out of the Al Kidwell collection. He passed away in 2008 and I have been seeing more of his collection come to market recently. The mineral Kidwellite is named in his honor.

Very good and beautiful fluorite from Saxony. You did a fantastic job with the lighting and photography, the specimen seems to glow! And good that you also posted it in the mineralogical journey through Germany - it deserves a place among all those treasures from Saxony :-)

Regards
Tobi
