Another unusual Calcite, from Eller Beck, then what is probably the best Iron stained Quartz crystal Ive ever seen, perfectly transparent, totally undamaged and a superb shade of red, thing is, its only 4 mm across and sits in a large lump of Hematite, one day when Im feeling brave Ill make a micro out of it.

More from Haggs Mine,
A banded Witherite with surface alteration to Baryte, There are an unusually large amount of localities where Witherite is found in Britain compared to elsewhere, Mindat lists more individual localities in the UK than it does in the US.

. and a Fluorite on Ankerite.with white Ankerite/Dolomite crystals

Another one of my Witherite's this one has been corroded and shows surface alteration to Baryte and a Baryte, which is my current favourite becauset its pretty much pristine both are from the Haggs mine

Thats weird, I noticed a problem with the Witherite close up so I replaced it and its finished up at the bottom of the post instead of under the full picture!

Nurbo, this is an odd yet normal behavior of the forum. When you replace a photo, no matter what its position is, when published it always goes to the bottom. You can do nothing to prevent it from happening unless you upload again all the pictures in the post from the top down.

Fixed

BTW, please Nurbo, remember to add to your captions: "England, UK": I'm doing it for you, but better if in the future you remember to do it in order to display better your specimens in your FMF Gallery

Today we have a Psilomelane from Dry Ghyll in the Caldbeck Fells an Amethyst from the Heights Lodge Pocket at Screel Hill in Scotland which has Rhombohedral casts on the back,, the dark spots on the casts are Chalcopyrite crystals. and finally continuing with the Calcite thing a heavily Haematite stained Calcite from lindal Moor, Im in two minds about cleaning it but I guess I will eventually, Ill add some photos of it clean if I do get around to it...

PostPosted: Sep 16, 2012 10:07    Post subject: Re: Collection of Nurbo

Here are some pieces from my collection of Wulfenite and Wulfenite pseudomorphs,
First up is Wulfenite cube pseudomorphed by Descloizite from the Ahumada mine at Los Lamentos, but, are the sharp prismatic crystals inside the shell of the former Wulfenite Descloizite too?

On the subject of Wulfenite pseudomorphs here is a Vanadinite after Wulfenite from the Rowley Mine in America, I love these pieces.

finally for today a very edible looking Wulfenite also from Los Lamentos, it has one dinged crystal right in the middle, I might make two thumbnail specimens out of it to shift the dinged crystal to the periphery of the piece.

Another Calcite this time from the Handsome Mea vein at the Smallcleugh mine near Nenthead, it has some wonderful modified Galena Cubes on it, the Matrix is mostly Dolomite but there are some sharp pristine Cumberland habit Quartz in there too. Next up is one of my larger pieces, a Dolomite from Frizington parks iron mine, the close up of the dolomite shows the crystals to be a lot whiter than they are but shows their structure nicely.

Some of my Ojuela mine pieces today.

Firstly an Aurichalcite miniature, a Calcite, I like the staining in this piece, it is under the surface of the rhombs, there are tiny Hemimorphite's on there too. Finally for now: Mimetite, aside from the green crust there are tiny sprays in the vugs on the Goethite matrix.

And a nice Quartz from the Florence Mine, with Specularite, Dolomite and tiny white Calcite crystals, the Quartz crystal have a distinctly smokey hue and measure to about 20 mm, a good size for Florence, this piece has remarkably little damage too.

Then I thought Id show you some Pharmacosiderite from Burdell Gill in the Caldbeck Fells, there are quite a few vugs lined with Pharmacosiderite crystals on this piece.

Thanks gneissware, im especially fond of the Pharmacosiderite (ex R Sutcliffe), before I got that one Id only ever seen it in micro form from the Caldbecks.

These are two of my current favourite pieces:
A Wavellite from Co Cork in Ireland which I think is just stunning in the final photo you can see a tiny micro ball of Wavellite in the top left hand corner, I didn't know that was there until I composed that photograph..
Finally for today one from Northern Ireland, a Natrolite and Analcime from Co Antrim, which actually has some Natrolite hairs amonst the Analcime which Ive totally failed to capture in the photograph.

P.S. well done Jordi and everyone else at this forum, the new auto complete when adding photograph details is brilliant.

This piece has two generations of Quartz one on top of the other, I do like Quartz from Cornwall, and on the subject of Quartz here is one of those polished multi phantom pieces, No locality information on this piece though, well nothing beyond Brasil. Im sure its impossible to tell where its from, there is a slight Haematite tinge to one of the phantoms.

It occured to me that I have never posted any of my Australian pieces, so here goes ...
First up is a pristine double terminated Rutile on matrix from Carvers Claim, then a Reaphook Scholzite, I have a much larger Scholzite that I must get around to photographing one day.

PostPosted: Oct 12, 2012 16:59    Post subject: Re: Collection of Nurbo

for todays offering I thought Id stick with the Antipodean flavour ...
A Dundasite micro from Dundas in Tasmania
A Crocoite with Pyromorphite from Platts Prospect likewise in Tasmania
and
A big Cerussite from Broken Hill

Off to Bakewell mineral show tomorrow so I should have a few decent bits and pieces to show off next week :-)
