At the foot of each post you may have seen (and even used) this typical symbol , which some people will remember used, for a period of time, to be at the top of the Forum’s pages. I say “used to be” as one day we got bored with its inability to work correctly and we removed it. Sometimes you would see it and sometimes you wouldn’t, then it would reset itself to 0, sometimes after it reached 3000 ‘likes’. This happened since we did not manage it and used an external source, so it behaved as it liked. So what have we decided to do? Well what we normally do when things do not work well, which is: we created our own one and got it to work in a way we like!
So while a few features are still missing, from now on the FMF will have its own ‘Like’ feature for each post.
What does this mean? Well from now on anyone who likes a post can just click on the symbol and their ‘like’ will be registered and added to other ones and increment the counter. If you hover over the ‘like’ symbol you will be able to find out how many of the people who registered a ‘like’ are logged in FMF members and how many were external visitors, as they can still like the post, if they wish.
In fact, we have many visitors who are not logged in members of the Forum and who visit us through search engines. So we thought it would be neat for them to register their gratitude for the service the FMF provides by letting them ‘like’ posts, and that way we will be more aware of the number of visitors we have who are not members.
In the near future as well as being able to like each post it will be possible to do the same for the whole thread, and then later on we will add this for each enlarged photo, so people can indicate which single photos they like.
We hope this new feature will be useful, as we know that ‘likes’ are very in fashion and feel that they have their use as a way of easily knowing when many people are interested in an item, and which ones a few less people like. So: get going members, add your ‘likes’ to the posts that interest you when you read them, and to any new posts that from now on, for any reason, grabs your interest ;-)
Regards
Jordi (translated by James – thank you James)

As there must always be a balance in the universe, a ying to the yang, etc., perhaps we need a "thumbs down" button, just like the Romans ;=))

We believe is not a good idea to use the thumbs down, it could be used even as a kind of revenge for personal questions. Also it could be not really stimulating for beginners to see thumbs down in their first posts...
Let things happen friendly, in fact when in the future everybody becomes habituated to use the "likes", a post with no "likes" could mean that the people are not so excited about that particular post ;-)

Threads now have a new, green that summarizes all the received by each post, plus the for the overall thread.
We have also recovered the (yellow ones) that were for the Forum as a whole and that represents the sum of all the for all the threads.
We hope this makes sense and you like it.
