Great and extraordinary report. And a lot of good work. Many thanks, Tobi, for sharing it with us.

Thanks :-)

... I never was interested in anglesite ... but that specimen changed my mind, never seen a better one (I mean the vivid yellow one with the two crystals, not this one on the first photo):

As you've seen in several posts before, the minerals from Germany were also outstanding ...

In this next-to-last post you'll see some extraordinary specimens from Saxony. Speaking of Saxon minerals, many of you may think of typical things like fluorite, galena, silver or baryte ... but here are things like colourful calcite sinter, gemmy blue topaz (no, not Minas Gerais or Ural Mts, really Saxony) and elbaite on quartz (also not Minas Gerais but Saxony) ;-)

That's it, guys, these are my last four photos. I think the last one is a good ending for this wonderful journey around the world, but actually only to Saxony. And so the very last photo shows a wonderful pyromorphite from its type locality - which is also in Saxony :-)

I hope you had fun with my report from one of the world's best mineral collections!

I thought the best German minerals museum of the weekend was in Munich but your photos prove that I was wrong.

That ugly chunk? Well, that would be the last specimen I'd choose if I'd get one for free ;-)

As I said in my introducing words on page 1, it's hard to compete with this collection, at least within Germany there's nothing like it. And you should keep in mind the dimensions of this collection: I only took photos of 10 percent of the display collection ... and the display collection is only a small part of Erika Pohl-Ströher's former private collection, she assembled 80,000 specimens. Yes, eighty thousand mineral specimens ... any further questions? :o

I'm glad you enjoyed the gallery :-)

Some bonus pictures: I tried to "infect" my son with the mineral passion by taking him to this crystal paradise ... he first seemed to have fun, but became bored rather quick ... maybe too young for this passion ;-)))

Give your son a few more months to develop his love of minerals, he only has to observe his father...and should be well on his way by the time he is 2 or 3. :)

Thanks for sharing this amazing collection.

The interest for minerals is not usually hereditary. But of course some exceptions exist.

Excellent overview Tobi! Can we have more?!?

BTW, did you see my Sierra de Cruces red garnet on display?
