We have a new improvement we hope you will like. It enables you to add a YouTube video and embed it in FMF, so you do not have to require users to leave FMF as they click through to that site.

It is as easy as one would hope: just click on the icon to the right of the box where you enter your text (whether it is a new message or a reply). Once you have clicked, a window will appear and you can simply paste the URL of the video into that window.

Then click ‘Publish on the FMF’ and it will automatically create the code to link to the video and add it to your message. It is important that you do not edit the code it creates, as otherwise it will not work correctly.

As an example there is an embedded YouTube video below this message, so you can see it working.

We hope you take advantage of this new feature, and you enjoy using it.

This is a great addition. I listened to the example video and I would like to make a few suggestions. First, the use of color to identify minerals was basically dismissed as not useful because of the examples used. I take exception to this because there are many minerals where color is very useful. Granted with minerals like quartz, calcite, fluorite and even wulfenite, color is not a good method of identification. However, for azurite, malachite, conichalcite, lazulite and many others that have only one color and maybe a few shades, color is very useful. Second, nothing was said about crystal shape as an identifier, also very important. Finally, when it came to streak, I was waiting for the example of black hematite also producing a reddish-brown streak. Otherwise I thought this You Tube was well done.
