Hi,
This specimen seems to be a single crystal with several sharp endings.
It appears completed by parallel contiguous prisms.
This Crystal habit in sharp pyramids is rare in beryl, almost always ended with a small base (0001).
Roger.

It looks very much like a trapiche beryl in which the non-beryl sectors have been eaten away. Trapiches are not limited to emeralds from Colombia, but I have never seen one from Madagascar. Very interesting. What does the bottom look like?

Hi Roger,

Here you have a picture of another similar crystal of beryl, this time from Minas Gerais, Brazil. You can see more views of it at my collection thread in the Spanish side of the forum, at https://www.foro-minerales.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=48429#48429.

Bets regards,

Felix Garcia

John,
Many thanks. I had not thought of a beryl traphiche. The sectors do not seem well defined, but there are some radial faults. In addition there is a non-beryl rim (feldspars maybe?).
This short prism is broken by the imperfect cleavage of beryl on {0001}.
Thank you for giving me your opinion.
Roger.

Felix,

I used the link and you have a beautiful collection. On page 1, the azurite on malachite from Bisbee, Arizona USA (photo 3289) is actually from the Northwest Extension, Morenci Mine, Morenci, Arizona, USA.

Steep ending beryl from Colombia.
This shape is known locally as "botella" (bottle).

Roger, Les,

Thank you for your kind words about my collection. Sometime in the future I shall resume the posting of pictures of my collection in this English side of the Forum, when I have got some time (something not easy with a two year old daughter).

Les, thank you again for the info about the correct locality of the azurite. I got on eBay two specimens of azurite with a few months in between from the same dealer, this one as being from Bisbee and the other from Morenci. I always suspected that the fomer was in fact from Morenci as you have just confirmed, perhaps the later is from Bisbee instead. Once again when I get some time, I will try to post some pictures and ask for your opinion.

Best regards,

Felix
