I recently visited Natural History Museum of Denmark - Geological Museum, Copenhagen.

The museum contains worldwide mineral specimens and also covers geology of Greenland, meteorites, and some general geology.

There are some particularly nice specimens of silver from Kongsburg, Norway.

It was well worth the visit.
Apologies for quality of some pictures. The reflections were difficult to overcome.

Robert, thanks for the pictures and bringing this museum back to folks attention, it is kind of off the beaten path unless you're visiting Rosenholm.

I think it's cool that you liked many of the same pieces I posted back in 2012. Great minds etc...

It's great to visit these museums when opportunity arises. We were recently able to pass through Illinois-Kentucky Fluorspar District and see 2 museums there and Tri-State Lead-Zinc District and see 2 museums there. Some great specimens to see at all these museums. The districts are out of the way so we stretched out return from Atlanta to Phoenix. It was well worth it. Many pictures to post.

Thank you so much for sharing these images! This museum was almost “my second home”, especially in the very first years when I moved to Copenhagen with my father, still as kid, in 1986. I passed by practically every week, and have spent there totally a pretty high number of hours during the 16 years I have been settled in the city. As I am now living in Madrid since 2002, it is first time in 15 years I see these rooms and pieces; I am touched… The top top material in my opinion is the Greenlandic pieces, especially those from Ilímaussaq and Ivigtut, and of course the meteorites as you say.

Following the merge of the geological museum with the zoological and the botanical, there are plans to rebuild it all to a big new modern complex, so maybe in few years we will no longer be able to enjoy this “classic” setup.

Keep watching I will post more from Geol. Museum. Working in Copenhagen I really enjoyed the Geol Museum and the National Museum.

Thank you for these impressions from the museum in Copenhagen, impressive old collection with great specimens from famous localities!

Side note: Interesting to see how similar the Danish and the German language are sometimes (we are neighbouring countries who both speak a Germanic language). I see that the Danish have exactly the same names for most minerals (e.g. Diamant, Azurit, Pyrargyrit) and many regions/countries (e.g. Italien, Sardinien, Polen). Some are quite different though you can always see the relatedness (e.g. Kvarts/Quarz, Tyskland/Deutschland, Østrig/Österreich).
