As usual Gail has taken it upon herself to bring the Denver show to life with many many fabulous pix of the folks involved and the minerals and fossils that make this show so special.
One of her pictures intrigues me. It is the pyrite case in the displays.....DSCN4934.jpg.....about 2/3s the way down on page 1. I, and a friend who is a fossil plant expert, saw this case as we checked out all the displays. The pyrite sun is very distinctive from Sparta Illinois, however the plant, a fern, seen on the black shale is almost certainly not found at that locality. It is from another shale deposit. We both agreed that the pictured specimen probably is a composite with the pyrite sun added and imbedded into the shale from the other locality. When we saw this, we mentioned our beliefs to one of the show personnel.
