Depending on the accuracy of your specific gravity measurement, the sp. gr. suggests beryl (though the crystal shape does not suggest beryl), or quartz (if your measurement has enough error to encompass quartz, sp. gr. 2.65). Another mineral in this range of sp. gr. is scapolite (with its several species and varieties); sp. gr. listed as 2.65-2.74, though less hard (5-6). What color exactly would you say the mineral is? It's a little hard to tell from the photo of this dark-looking mineral; it looks dark purplish--is that correct? You might try remeasuring the sp. gr. by the method you used, see how close it comes to your first measurement, to get an idea of the accuracy. Also, the scaly appearance of the mineral's surface (is that real?) suggests that it might be intergrown with inclusions of another mineral, perhaps micaceous? Just some suggestions. Knowing something about the locality might help narrow possibilities, of course.
