Attached are two pictures showing a xtal that i think exhibits a dauphine habit. What do you think?

That is what I'd call it.

That's what I understand this habit to be as well. I have to say that to my mind this is not a particularly noteworthy "habit". It only involves one of the terminal faces of the crystal being much larger than the others. It may have to do with the direction of supply of fluids relative to the large face (it was probably on the down-flow side), or some other unknown factor.

I find this less significant than habits that affect the whole crystal - Muzo, Tessin, pseudo-cubic, "beta", etc.

Sorry, Matt, I do not mean to minimize this specimen. It is a lovely crystal, with its brothers and sisters around it, and glowing green with probable chlorite inclusions.

When you write about "Dauphine habit" are you referring to twinning following the Dauphiné Law of quartz twinning?

I do not see evidence of twinning...

No, John, this has nothing to do with Dauphiné twinning, at least as far as I know. I don't know the origin of the term in this context.

John, I did mean habit and not twinning. The definition i am using for both can be found by googling "dauphine habit quartz page" and "dauphine twin quartz page."
