PostPosted: May 05, 2018 13:10    Post subject: Elbaite from Afghanistan/Pakistan?

Another lovely piece from the collection. A blue Elbaite with Lepidolite. Sold the me about 15 years ago. The sellers couldn't give me more information than that it was from Afghanistan/Pakistan.
Anyone an idea? It has a strange termination. Could it be Paprok or is Brazil (Pederneira, Golconda etc) more probable?

Looks like Pederneira to me, and certainly more Brazilian than AFG/PAK, but it is hard to tell from a picture. As you say, the strange termination may be diagnostic.

Hi, All

Maybe the black hen, but I think that can be very easily Afghanistan/Pakistan, more taking in account what seller said.
For "odd" termination, please look at this also "odd" termination

And it is from Afghanistan...

With best wishes

We won't find out for sure only by pictures, but I agree with Matt: Intuitively I think this looks more like Brazil than Afghanistan or Pakistan. Especially Golconda is known for elbaites of such colour and termination ...

Hi, Tobi

Intuition is just that...
Without an analysis of trace components, if they are different from sources, one only could think. That is just that, thinking. And to think is just not to know.... :-)

Maybe I am wrong, but I see no need to change from Afghanistan to Brazil for an intuition...

Say me hard headed...

With best wishes

Hi Lluís,

Of course I didn't want someone to "change" the locality just because of my guess. But we were asked for our opinion concerning the locality, and I just said what came to my mind. And that I know such specimens from Brazil (especially Golconda) is fact and should be mentioned, I think.

Hi, Tobi

If I have offended you in any way, please forgive me. Maybe my bad English, maybe differences in culture (I learned the hard way that young ladies do not like to be called "Mädchen"... That in Hoechst, maybe 30 years ago... My fault by ignorance... :-()

Of course to share an opinion and your knowledge is great (I learn from you...)

What I posted is just another opinion.

With best wishes

Lluís

Thanks you all.

I have seen Golconda Indicolites, especially from the 1968 find, with the same termination. But they are without the Lepidolite.
Darrah-i-Pech in Afghanistan also gives Indicolites with such strange terminations and there Lepidolite is sometimes with the Indicolite.
So again thanks for your responses but I think Darrah-i-Pech is most likely the origin.
Regards
Harry
