that is another incredible collection. I am really happy to discover it; particularly all theese wonderful german minerals
Hi Philippe. thanks for the kind words. There may be some nice specimens in my collection, especially from Germany there are a few good ones, but my collection is far from incredible! If you want so see an incredible mineral collection, I recommend my report from Terra Mineralia, Freiberg, Saxony, Germany:
https://www.mineral-forum.com/message-board/viewtopic.php?t=4534

Or the collection of the MIM Museum in Beirut:
https://www.mineral-forum.com/message-board/viewtopic.php?t=3388&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0

Or the outstanding collection of Adalberto Giazotto:
https://www.mineral-forum.com/message-board/viewtopic.php?t=762&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0

Most of the pieces in those collections are worth much more than my entire collection ;-)

Nevertheless I had to smile when I read your post, nice to see someone having so much fun browsing my gallery!

Cheers!
Tobi

Yes, the matrix consists of tiny grey quartz crystals. I forgot to add this, there's no more edit button, could one of the admins please add quartz to the specimen information?

No doubt it is one of your best photos, if not the best of all. But if I were you I would try with a black background. No need of repeating the shot, just use your image editor, save first as png to keep jpg from degrading, change the color, and compare.

Hm, not sure, I prefer the one with the white background.

Gérard asked me (on the mineralogical trip through the U.S, New Mexico thread) to do the same with the blue smithsonite
Fiebre Verde wrote:
You should maybe try a black background with your nice smithsonite, like the fantastic job you did with the sphalerite.
Here we go, but this time I like the black background version better, thanks for the idea, Gérard :-)

There is no point in discussing taste and colors but I find that the black background does more justice to your smithsonite. Well done!

Sure, it is often a matter of taste which background matches a specimen better. But like I said, concerning the smithsonite I agree that the black version looks better. Or, to use your objective term, it does more justice to the specimen.

Concerning the Kelly Mine smithsonite above: We talked about black or white background, but I think the most beautiful (maybe not the best in terms of quality) photo of a specimen is always one from the collector's cabinet:

I still think black background was better. Just my taste.

That's more than ok. From an objective point of view, the one with the black background is for sure the best photo, most others would agree with you. As the collector who owns and "loves" this specimen, the photo from the display cabinet is more appealing to me, nevertheless I know that this photo hasn't the best quality. It's just a subjective thing ;-)
