Hi Everyone,
I’m trying to determine the locale of this specimen. In addition to barite, the specimen also has calcite and what appears to be chalcopyrite. This specimen came from an old collection that dates back at least 30 years. Any help would be appreciated.

I'm thinking that this specimen might be from the Julcani District, Angaraes Province, Peru. Any other opinions out there?

Looking again at this nearly year old posting, I think your example might be from the Southern Illinois Fluorite district. More specifically might be from either the Crystal Mine or the Minerva #1 Mine as both produced similar white bladed Barite on Calcite. No fluorite needed to be present. Also, look at the size of the specimen; it is a large cabinet size example. Lots of Southern Illinois specimens were of this large size. Bob

Maybe we won't find out for sure, but I agree with Bob, Minerva #1 Mine could be a good guess. But then the black stuff could be rather sphalerite than chalcopyrite.
