PostPosted: Apr 24, 2019 18:01    Post subject: Azurite Morocco?

Hi All!
Enclosed are some pics of a handsome cluster of blocky azurite crystals purportedly from Morocco (see the tag pic). Tags from this lot of minerals were all over the place and many were mixed up so I am not sure that this tag goes with this piece. Can anyone hazard a guess as to a specific locale (Morocco or not) for this piece? Also, on the back of this piece (third pic) is a coating of grey-bluish botryoidal mineral on a matrix of soft black Mn-wad(?) - any thoughts as to what species this might be? Thank you all!

Hey there - I wouldn't go with Touissit on the azurite. Have you looked at mindat's azurites there? Nothing from Touissit looks like this guy - https://www.mindat.org/gallery.php?cform_is_valid=1&frm_id=pager&min=&loc=2402&u=&potd=&pco=1&d=&showtype=1&phototype=0&checkall=&filtmin=447&loctxt=&keywords=&orderxby=&submit_pager=Filter+Search&photoclass=1&cf_pager_page=1

They tend to be gemmier, and blades not fans like these.

I'm guessing Shilu, China? -

OK, I see it, you published two different threads...

I unified both and after the vision of the third photo I agree with Monica, I believe is not Touissit neither Chessy and as Monica, I would say China.

I also agree, it could be a specimen from Chessy-les-Mines, but I rather think China, most likely from Shilu Mine, Guangdong Province ...

Hello everyone,
As a comparison, I show 2 azurites of Chessy.
The gangue is typical. It is earthy.
Roger.

thanks. One of the odd things about my piece is that the matrix is interspersed between the crystal books and appears to be a fine-grained "salt and pepper" style andesite porphyry that is partially silicified...

It's true that it looks a lot as Chessy, but I believe is not by the botryoidal material on the rear.
