Wonderful European classics, both the Panasqueira ferberite and the pyromorphite from Bulgaria, really lovely!

Wonderful gypsum sculpture on page 4 of this thread, Rob, very aesthetic. And that large 15 cm twinned calcite crystal from Gralex quarry (also on page 4) is a great piece too!
Somehow I missed to comment these specimens, but gladly I found them again while browsing your gallery :-)

Thank you Tobi. These Belgium Calcites really can be beautiful. Not very well known outside Europe. Probably because Belgium collectors collected the stones themselves (so no dealers and so on) and keep most of them in their collection.

Hi, Rob.

Living a few kilometers from the Campiano mine I saw hundreds of anhydrites from there, but none with such transparent crystals.
Congratulations: this is a really nice piece.

Cheers. Take care.

Hi, Rob.

Congratulations on your very beautiful specimens.
How did you get the Pyrite from Niccioleta mine?

Greetings from Tuscany.

Thank you Sante.
We bought it in Amsterdam in 1976 for fl. 135,- which is – indexed - nowadays about € 170,-) from Job Ritman, one of the three Ritman brothers (see Wikipedia “Joost Ritman”). They were true collectors; the book collection of Joost Ritman is one of the most valuable in the world. Job Ritman was the mineral collector and he sold minerals and paintings in his art gallery “Job-Art Amsterdam”. We also bought a big beautiful piece full of almandine garnets from him. I’ll post that later.

Greetings,
Rob

Rob,

I find this a very interesting story about Job Ritman selling both minerals and paintings in his art gallery. Some collectors consider beautiful minerals as " Nature's Art."

Stay safe.

Don

Hi Sante, nice to hear that from someone who lives so nearby the mine. Thanks for your reaction.

Warm greetings,
Rob

Hi Don, yes you are right, I think Job Ritman (and his brother) absolutely did see it that way. The family made their fortune with selling plastic tableware to airlines. They spent their money very well, at least in my opinion. It's a pity they had to sell their collections because the firm went bankrupt.

Cheers,
Rob
