Hello everybody,
I've posted in my photos' collection a Malachite from Congo. I wonder if there is a way to find a more precise location ?
Thank you for your answers and have a nice day.

Impossible to be sure from where is https://www.mineral-forum.com/message-board/download.php?id=94281
Too many places in Congo produce Malachite like this. There Is some possibility that it could come from Mashamba West; you can write this in your personal records but better not to use this option here (and in your FMF Gallery) because we recommend to use only confirmed localities.in FMF

Hello Jordi,

I spent time on mindat to try to find more information about "my" Malachite. I'm more confused because on the label I've received with the specimen it's written Congo and I discovered that you can find Malachite in the Republic of Congo (Brazzaville) and in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. I've found some photos very similar to the specimen in Mashamba West Mine, Kolwezi mining district, Lualaba, DR Congo and in Kenge, M'Fouati District, Bouenza Department, Republic of Congo (Brazzaville). What do you think ?

Thank you in advance for your answer and have a nice weekend.

P.S. I think there's more on that specimen than the three minerals you mention: The dark-grey crystals are galena, the tiny purple cubes fluorite, the white stuff baryte. But what about the colourless transparent crystals on the upper right of the specimen, maybe anglesite or cerussite? I'm not an expert for the locality, maybe someone else can confirm ...?

Thank you Tobi. I'll take time to investigate more deeply.

I spent time to find more information on Internet but impossible to find accurate information. It will continue to be a mystery.

I didn't expect when I started my collection that I will incorporate some materials in my body instead in my show case. Brand new hip prosthesis since last Wednesday. Hope to be able to run like a rabbit in order to attend SMAM this summer.

I think it's not the official name for Chlorite but I've found many specimens in the FMF gallery with this same name. How should I name it ?

Hi Dany,

Chlorite is actually a group of a dozen or so micaceous silicate minerals. Clinochlore, Cookeite, and Chamosite are probably the most commonly seen members of the group. Without an analysis, I would label your specimen Albite with Chlorite (Group). If your specimen is from a well-known location, perhaps someone has already analyzed a similar sample and you could be more certain which member of the group you have.

Thank you for you answer. I tried to find a more precise information before posting without success. I'll try to send a mail to "Le Musée de la Science de la Terre - Fondation Tissières Martigny", a museum dedicated to the specimen of the area. Maybe they could help me.

Have a nice and safe day.

Dany.
