PostPosted: Aug 04, 2019 10:31    Post subject: Labradorite locale

I am trying to create a proper label for this specimen I bought from an online dealer. There is no known Labradorite in Wausau or Wisconsin that I am aware of, possibly whoever created the label confused this with anorthoclase "moonstone" which is found in the Wausau area. But this is not not Anorthoclase, it has plagioclase striations on the crystals and displays to many colors in the schiller whereas the Anorthoclase displays only a blue schiller.

So I am wondering if it is possible to know by a few photos if this Labradorite is from Canada or elsewhere? It does not resemble the Labradorite I have from Madagascar which is more of a greenish yellow Labradorite. Thx for any help.

Quite possibly a glacial erratic - i.e. brought by the glaciers and deposited when they melted. The origin probably cannot be known and the locality of the find is rather superfluous - it is just a place where there are glacial deposits.
