PostPosted: Aug 11, 2019 08:43    Post subject: Hausmannite and ?

2 weeks ago, I bought a specimen of Hausmannite.
5 cm wide, 4 cm high.

Besides some Hausmannite crystals it contatains a dark black velvet like mineral.
Perhaps psilomelane but I am not sure.
On mindat there are no Kuruman Hausmannite photo's showing this addition.

Is there anybody who recognizes this mineral?

Thanks,

Mathias

Hi Mathias, it may sound strange but my guess is - hausmannite. I remember that I have seen some specimens of botryoidal hausmannite from the N'Chwaning mines (which are the locality near Kuruman that produces the beautiful crystallized hausmannite) and they looked very similar. So I think this could be not a paragenesis but a specimens with two generations of hausmannite ...

Just a guess, I hope anyone can confirm or really find out what else it could be.

Tobi

Thanks Tobi,

I haven't considered this option, but I think you are right. Thanks!
This was also on the label: Haldenfund 1995 Angelikastohl.

Best regards,
Mathias.
