PostPosted: Nov 29, 2019 19:21    Post subject: Opinions appreciated....Citrine or glass?

Hello friends, I am looking at this item which is told to be a pale yellow natural Brazilian Citrine. The facets are nice and sharp, but just looking at the photo, I cannot really tell if the top part is scratches akin to glass scratches, or if it could be natural inclusions. Any opinions greatly appreciated!

This threaf will get licked since you couldn’t respect the rules of the forum. This in NOT subject matter dealt with here. Speak to a jewelers or lapidary club.

This forum deals with minerals, naturally occurring crystalline chemical compounds, in their unaltered states. While citrine is a mineral, it is often heat-treated for gem purposes, and once cut it no longer has other characteristics of a natural mineral, specifically its natural form.

SteveB's reply may have been somewhat brusque, but please understand that we are inundated by people wanting to know about gem stones, polished pebbles, beads, meteorites, the value of any of the above, and all kinds of other things we largely don't care about or have expertise in. Unfortunately, the web does not understand this, so the deluge continues.

SteveB's suggestion to seek out a group that deals with gems and polished materials is the appropriate one. Good luck in your search!
