I share some of my specimens that show some resemblance to...
I'd like other forum members to show here their "nicknamed" minerals.

| LOL...it takes all kinds. Until now, most of the "named" specimens I've seen seem to be for marketing purposes...

Thank you for your comment, but I don't understand (perhaps because of my scarce knowledge of english).
The "named" minerals for marketing purposes are on a much higher level.
Do you mean that for common specimens, like mine, this practice is too pretentious?

| Not at all. I thought your post was amusing (in fact, I thought you were being ironic), and I think the sellers of many of the really expensive specimens with names are being pretentious. Sorry if either of us misunderstood.

| There was a display at Tucson some years back that had what looked like a dinner table with all sorts of mineral specimens (and rocks i think) that looked like a set table full of food. It included specimens that looked like bread and cheese and fruits. Can anyone remember which show that was?

I don't remember which show it was but I think GAIL can help: I think that these special look-alike specimens were from her and Jim's collection, I remember a copper specimen that looked like a crab and a calcite that looked like a sliced cheese ...

Baryte crystals are very beautiful, good piece.

On May 2, 2013, I posted some pictures of a dinner table set like a banquet with rocks and minerals as the "food."

This copper from New Cornelia Mine, Arizona, USA reminds me of a sargasso seahorse. Crystals to over 6 cm in length.
