For today I want to share one Russian and a few Brazilian pieces. I purchased these some years ago from an obviously abandoned collection, that was unfortunately split. At least I could get many of these partly very good pieces for a good price, but most without label. So I had and still have to do a lot of research for identification and locations in the next months (years?)...

In the last days I was sorting the oldest parts of my collection. I did not fully remember what pieces I had collected about 40 to 50 years ago. All shown pieces are self-collected in Austria, some during excursions that I joined during my studies. Some pieces are slightly damaged, but I still will keep it as reminder of my youth and the old stories (I think this is one of the spirits why most of us collect).

Hello Sante,
In my opinion this is a two-phase sinter formation: The first phase of stalactites had some iron-staining, and later they were encrusted by white aragonite. In any case very unusual! Glad, that you like it.

Your first cinnabar is really "wonderful", but your last specimen is really "interesting"...
I would like to have them both in the collection but, having to choose, I'd opt for the latter.
Of course, this is only my personal taste or my point of view on collecting I've developed over the course of fifty years. :-)

I understand you very well. For me, both specimens are interesting, too. The first one has not only excellent aesthetics, but also interesting twins as well. The last one is different by its paragenesis. Therefore, I also like both!
