Hello Tobi,

this is only a small selection of single crystals from a 3m cleft ("garbage"). You should see the best from there in my son's collection (up to 15 cm and totally glassy)!

Sounds good, I'd really like to see them! Maybe your son wants to join our community and to present his collection ... :-)

Hi Volkmar, nice fluorite, but there must be something wrong with the locality information. Fluorite does not occur in Altenmittlau (and actually nowhere in Hesse in good crystals), this specimen must be from somewhere else.

I know, guessing is not easy, but this specimen could be from Spain or from the U.S., definitely not from Schmitt quarry, sorry :-( Otherwise, you would own the best fluorite specimen ever found in our entire Bundesland Hessen ;-)

I hope we can find out where it's really from. The tiny sulfides on it, for sure pyrite? Maybe chalcopyrite or marcasite? Is there any matrix visible at the bottom that could help to find out the origin?

Liebe Grüße nach Österreich :-)

PostPosted: Aug 18, 2021 03:30    Post subject: Re: Collection of Volkmar Stingl

Tobi, thank you for this information! I got this specimen together with others from an old collection, maybe there was some confusion with the labels. I should not have trusted in the accompanying labels alone (my mistake!). Unforunately, I cannot ask the former owner anymore.

Please, could an administator change the location to "unknown" (I can not edit the post anymore)?

Thanks,
Volkmar

'Unknown' is not valid for this collections section, so, I deleted it.
Please submit it to 'What is it? - Where is it from?' section where maybe someone could recognize its locality.
Thanks
