We have recently had a problem in Spain with people collecting minerals on private property and claiming they had permission to do so 'as the locality is on FMF'! So we have accepted that we need to spell out:

While some people are 'thick-skulled', I find it hard not to believe they only were using that as a very bad excuse after being caught on private property without permission. It takes someone very naive/dumb to think that mention of a location on a website [or even described with/without a map in a mineral book] ipso facto gives permission to collect........ Have people used the same 'excuse' from Mindat?

Peter

I do not know if people have used that excuse but I am aware MinDat also has had similar text for a while - in this case, the FMF location was precise (I think it came from a book and local knowledge).

How sad...but this kind of "protection" costs nothing except a few more slices of common sense.

In the US it does nothing to slow down anybody, but perhaps the trespasser's lawyers after someone gets hurt or arrested.

Several years ago when I was posting pictures of my self-collected Indiana finds, I began receiving private message requests from FMF forum users to go onto private lands that I had access to.
On March 22, 2018 (my last posting on page 5 of my posts), I posted an open response to those requests. I won't, and will not, divulge any info to my private collecting areas. BOB

Dear All

What they said that because named in FMF, access is granted, is simply an lie in Spain: owner should give permission if you wish to dig there for minerals.
That many do not do, by sure, but if owner prosecute him/her/them, well, is his/her/their trouble (and a big one..)
Many years ago was tolerated to dig in El Papiol. For several years ago, it is not permitted, and they do not issue permissions, so...

With best wishes

When I lived in Spain we used to visit sites that slowly become off-limits, which we respected. We used to ask permission in some places and were granted it in some cases (but not all).

I never collected at El Papiol, even though my parents lived close to the area.
