PostPosted: Mar 02, 2021 19:56    Post subject: Alabama Copper? Quartz or Quartzite and red to almost green mineral along with??

I have some specimens from the lower piedmont region. This general area is the foothills to the Appalachian Mountains where they level off an meet the Coosa River. There are many minerals here, but I do not know what they look like, nor can I identify them. There is Lead, Copper, Clay, Quartzite and marble in the area. There is a lot of igneous rock in the area?

The last photo looks like mica schist, but these pictures could have been taken in many places with similar geology. There are a half dozen mineral clubs in Alabama. Your best bet is to find a club near you and take some of the specimens in (assuming they're meeting) for an opinion by collectors in your area.

Thanks for the help. We take my gf's kids hiking and they're always asking what the rocks contain and I'd like to be able to tell them.

Thanks for the advice regarding the local collectors/clubs. I will look into that.

Any clue about this burgundy/green spot. This stuff is all over around here. There are some USGS iron and copper deposits around this area. Goldville is also a short 30-40min drive away (Hog Mountain). I found a similar specimen to the one pictured around Cragford, ALABAMA.

I will post them to the "Alabama" specimen page/thread here as well.

This specimen was also found in the area. Has a silver metallic sheen when rotated in the light. Is this Beryl? Coosa Co Alabama is known for having gemstones.

The other pics are of specimens from southern Colorado from my property in the Sangre de Cristo mountain range a few miles from Mt. Blanca. Any idea on what those could be. Blue and green colors on the smooth pieces that look like crystals or gems.

Last pics are from specimens from the Big Sur California Coastline. What's the burgundy and green rock?? Anyway it's Jade?

Doesn't set off a metal detector.
