Jim

Good to see material from that area. I used to collect there as a child.

I lived on a farm in Landenberg so have finds from our fields and from the surrounding area! Mica, Schorl, etc.

PostPosted: Apr 11, 2021 17:00    Post subject: Re: Jim’s Mineral Collection

I received a message stating that I reached a limit of 15 specimens and couldn't add any more to my collection page. Is there a way to get around this?

Thanks!

Jim

But how do you add to your collection pages? I see collections on FMF with many pages.

I am sorry I wasn't clearer in my questions. I did read the guide but did not see any option to edit a post once someone has replied to it. I would like to delete some specimens from "My collection" but cannot find any way to edit it.

If you send a PM to an admin we can edit some aspects of posts, but it does get very complex so we rarely do it

You are best taking photos of specimens on plain white backgrounds - that way the camera focuses on the specimen not the background. The first photo is a nice one of the background, but the specimen is out of focus.

I was told to use a black background when I submitted other photos to Mindat. White was a no no.

Here is a link to minerals in Delaware. Some are on dark and some on light background. Most are a little out of focus. Would you give the same comment to these specimens as you did to mine? I am curious because I usually do not see any comments on this site about photo backgrounds.

Thank you.

PostPosted: Mar 21, 2024 04:11    Post subject: Re: Jim’s Mineral Collection

I learnt about the 'plain white background' on MinDat.

The ideal, I think, is that the background must have no pattern so the camera does not focus on the background. I have used black myself, but black with no pattern and a manual focus SLR. With auto focus cameras plain white and no other objects seems to work well.
