Setting up an FMF homepage

I have looked at the collector’s pages – superb minerals. It got me thinking, is it possible to setup a collector’s page where the collector is the only one who can make contributions. It seems that anyone can add a photo to anyone else’s page. This becomes a distraction if one wants to highlight their own collection.

this is not a bad idea at all - I love looking through the various collection postings (especially Frederic Hede) but getting a notice that there's a new posting on that thread only to find it's a "WOW" comment is a bit frustrating.

Excellent suggestion.

One thing that I've wondered about as well are posts on collectors pages that are just plain compliments and then replies of "thank you".
Seems like those kind of posts should really just be in PMs.... or at least not warranting an email of a "new" post in their collection series.

I understand that implementing changes to a forum can be challenging and may not really be feasible.... but ... if we are all aware... it could possibly reduce such postings :-)

Either way... I'm a very happy member of the forum and do like feedback on my posts... though some I feel would be more appropriate in my inbox, rather than elsewhere :-D

Sort of sounds like a good idea, however this forum gets a huge number of spammers and scammers it would only open a floodgate for more and worse of the same. Cyberscammers setting up personal stores. If the moderators are ok with this expectation, removing all the scam posts is a big job and one everybody doesn't get to see. I think a feature like this would require closing accounts and blocking IPs and when the scammers are spoofing IPs of regular visitors a lot of innocent people will be affected.

Maybe a well thought out publicly debated “feature” could be implemented requiring a cost to help cover both the extra work to set up plus would force the scammers to pay money if they intend to use it the feature to bypass existing forum rules. Best to avoid all round. If you want a website to showcase your collection, set one up yourself, Otherwise share this great forum with others within the framework provided, Its free and you don't see all the hard work that goes on behind the scenes to keep it running and keep the scammers out so the forum areas are kept neat and tidy and on topic so everyone can enjoy it.

In the interim, perhaps just a request to all to limit 'wow, great specimen' posts to a minimum and only when there also is some comment about the specimen that would be of interest to all. I think many to most of us think 'Wow!' to some photos/specimens, but don't clutter up the forum with posts that are only statements of 'Wow'. As mentioned, they can be done with a thumbs-up or by PM.

This is a Forum, so, people should have the right to publish posts with their thoughts, but at the Collection photos and Collector's page section, the only images at each thread are the images of that thread's collector because if by mistake someone publish there another image, the administrators we move it to another place.

You are new in FMF or at least is your first post, I suggest to you to be a little bit more familiar with our dynamic and then you will see that in the Collection photos and Collector's page every collector has only their own images as well as in their pages in Gallery FMF, where every collector has in his own Gallery only their own images.

It is a lot of work here 'behind the scenes' and what can't be done automatically with a program is done manually by the administrators, that's why FMF looks, in general, more 'clean' than other Fora.
