Dear all,
I recently purchased a calcite specimen with a label on the backside but I can't figure out the exact location. It says as far as I can see: Crucimesti-Boita. Nothing found via Google.
Does anybody know where this is, it is in Transylvania.
Thanks,
Mathias

Yes, Mathias, the "Siebenbürgen" on the label is the old German name for Transylvania.

just ran across this:
Boița is a commune in Sibiu County, Transylvania, Romania, at the foothills of the Cindrel Mountains, 22 km south of the county capital Sibiu

Hi Matt, thanks for asking. I forgot to mention this when I posted the question.
Actually I don't know what the red/orange stuff is, it was not mentioned on the handwritten label. But I believe that it is finely dispersed iron oxide crystals, nanometer size Fe2O3 in calcite or dolomite crystal lattice. I don't believe that this is realgar.
Mathias.

This is really strange, never seen something like that from Romania. The calcite could be from Cavnic, but Boita is not even near this and I've never heard of minerals from Boita, so maybe the locality information is wrong ...
It would be really interesting to know what the red stuff is, I hope someone will solve this riddle!
Regards
Tobi
