Hi Everyone

Well, the wait is almost over.

I have just submitted the final PDF of the book to the printer. It will be 432 pages, hardback, with a comprehensive list of references and a detailed index.

I am expecting to receive the finished books towards the end of April and am planning on being at the Oxford (UK) mineral show on Sunday 8 May!

I would like to thank everyone who supported the project by being an advance subscriber - all 180 of you! Also everyone who has sent messages of encouragement and taken an interest in the project over the past three years. It has been a lot of hard work but I think and hope that you will all be pleased with the finished result!

You can see a few sample page images on my website - see the link(s) in the original post by James!

Perhaps James will post a review here once he's got his copy?

Best wishes and thanks again

Roy

We are getting close!

There’s another book just about to appear.

“Making it Mine” by Roy Starkey is about the life and astonishing mineral collection (which incorporated earlier collections) of Sir Arthur Russell ( https://russellsoc.org/wp-content/uploads/2021/05/An-Appreciation-of-Sir-Arthur-Russell.pdf ).

Visit this page for an outline of the project and many sample pages - https://britishmineralogy.com/wordpress/?page_id=1034 -

It's due out this month. I have my copy reserved, but I think there will be no photos of 'my' Russell specimens in it

Hi James - thanks. Yes, we are indeed getting close! I received copies of the 'running sheets' - actual printed pages from the 1000 copies production run. The colour reproduction is excellent - big relief!

The next stage is for the pasted paper cover to be printed and approved - this is the laminated sheet that is wrapped around the boards which form the hardback cover.

Once those have been printed the job will take its place in the production schedule for binding.

If all goes smoothly I expect to receive the finished books by the end of April and am planning to launch the book at the Oxford Mineral Show on Sunday 8 May.

I will post a further update once I have taken delivery of the books.

Best wishes

Roy

Here is a photo of the 'running sheets' - actual folded printed pages prior to binding. The cover proof is due this week and the book will then go on to final binding.

Finally the wait is over - Making it Mine Sir Arthur Russell and his Mineral Collection exists!

I think the book looks great and I am looking forward immensely to the global launch at the Oxford Mineral Show this coming Sunday (8 May).

Do please come along and say 'Hi!" - and maybe pick up a copy too!

If you cannot get along to the Show online ordering will go live on my website later this week.

I am working hard to despatch all advance subscriber copies ahead of the Show - many thanks indeed to you all for your support.

Now set up for reading!

I started by finding information on the collectors whose specimens are now in my collection, with an Arthur Russell label of course.
