PostPosted: Apr 13, 2022 15:14    Post subject: Help needed regarding first emerald

Hello, I am a total newbie to emeralds and to the forum. I live in Colombia and bought my very first emerald today in Bogotá. I was walking past a reputable emerald store downtown and decided to buy this tiny emerald. It cost my $50,000 Colombian Pesos ($13,40 USD). According to the certificate and the salesperson, it's 0.10 carats. and from Chivor, Boyacá.

Can somebody please tell me more from the photos, anything about the emerald and characteristics? Since the store was at a posh sector, I am pretty sure it's legit of course; but was wondering if it was a good price to purchase it and it looks of good quality? I saw a beautiful, larger one that cost 25x more, which I'd love to purchase later on; but depending on if this one looks okay regarding price/quality ratio I'll decide to buy it later perhaps.

Would this Colombian emerald sell for a higher price, say in the United States?

Sorry for all the questions, and thank you very much for any help!

Hello, We don't want to seem unfriendly, but this forum is for discussion of various non-commercial aspects of minerals and mineral collecting, we expressly do not get involved in valuations or sales.

+1 to Peter’s response. To clarify, this forum is for natural mineral specimens, NOT cut, polished or tumbled or in any way unnatural or interfered with. Financial questions are ignored. If you don't know how to buy gemstones you are just throwing away money, even if you get receipts or even a certificate, which anyone can make. There's no way to know its truth connected to the object you hold. “Emerald” is very specifically defined, likely the best you can hope for is its green beryl, not technically an emerald. LOL caveat emptor, buyer beware.
