PostPosted: Jun 27, 2022 13:54    Post subject: Quartz confusion

Good day all.

I am new to the world of mineral and stone collecting, but have always been interested.

I came upon some stones by chance recently and wanted some clarity/info on one of them. It is a Quartz and seems to have various colours.. which are more prominent when using the camera flash. See pics please.

Any additional info would greatly appreciated.

I reside in South Africa and the stone was found by a local in a mountain in the area of Jozini, KwaZulu Natal.

Thank you kindly.

Hello Nirvash, What you have is clearly a quartz crystal. When quartz is purple it is the variety amethyst. There are a range of colored quartzes, with pretty much every color getting its own name

Hi Nirvash

You could join the Natal Gem & Mineral Society to learn more about the local rocks and minerals, including those around Josini. Contact: Renee Hadfield natalmineralandgemsociety @ gmail . com

There is also a gem & mineral club in Pietermaritzburg: Contact: John Hudson (Chairman): johnhudson676 @ gmail . com
