PostPosted: Jul 09, 2022 07:53    Post subject: Dark green mineral, what is this?

Hello everybody,
I would like to know what kind of mineral this is. It is set in a pendant and has a dark color tending to green with other shades of other colors in some places, I would be interested to know which is the main mineral. I thank you all in advance.

Could you please do some tests on it? Hardness and streak as a minimum

Also, a better-focussed photo, as based on the one you posted we would be guessing

As for the hardness I did the test and it manages to make deep scratches on the glass. I don't know how to add multiple photos to the same message.

Looks like tourmaline. Watermelon tourmaline. Do some tests on it as James said.

I agree, the striations are typical of tourmaline

the different colors are usual in tourmalines and are related to differences in the trace elements in the composition

You can include up to 15 photos or images within each message. To see how to add photos and how to include up to 15 photos/images in a single message follow this link

https://www.mineral-forum.com/message-board/viewtopic.php?p=19493#19493

As you add each photo we ask that you include sufficient information. There are 3 simple fields that need to be completed in each photo and these are: Mineral, Locality, and Dimensions (if you know them). These fields, once there are filled in, will automatically appear as text in that order respectively in the Description box of the published message.

This does not stop you adding any other comments you might have, which you can do in the normal way in the 'Comments on the file' field, it is just that by filling in the three fields we will ALWAYS see the mineral name first, then the locality, then the size and thus will see the images correctly in order in the FMF Gallery.
