I think I had better just give up posting I am always messing things up. I have not got a clue how to edit information or delete this post

My apologies for messing up yet again. If you could just delete my post, I don't want to trouble moderators editing for me.

Sorry Forrest

Do not give up. You cannot edit the post but Admins can - just let me know and I will make the edits. As a rule we never delete posts, but we do make minor edits.

Hi James. Thanks for the offer of help. I will endeavour to meet the basic posting rules. I do know how important they are. Just posting a few photos of sparkleys is not the way forward. I understand a lot of members need details like the location, size and depth of field to turn a nice photo into an enjoyable resource with provenance and clear understanding of what they are looking at.

It's just a steep learning curve for an over 60s computer ludite like me to get myself started and in order. You could probably type faster with your toes that I can with my finger.

I will keep at it, hoping everyone will be patient.

Best regards all Forrest

Forrest

We try to let members have this information so that they know the mineral, locality and size of the specimen. We find it makes the forum more useful and lets people find material. In the background, we also have a locality database which, while is not that complete outside Spain, it is very well researched within Spain with a lady called Inma checking all the plans and history for each locality. The database is curated by admins so as to keep it in line with the latest information found by Inma.

James

-----------------

As you add each photo we ask that you include sufficient information. There are 3 simple fields that need to be completed in each photo and these are: Mineral, Locality, and Dimensions (if you know them). These fields, once there are filled in, will automatically appear as text in that order respectively in the Description box of the published message.

This does not stop you adding any other comments you might have, which you can do in the normal way in the 'Comments on the file' field, it is just that by filling in the three fields we will ALWAYS see the mineral name first, then the locality, then the size and thus will see the images correctly in order in the FMF Gallery.
