Hello,
From an old collection, my initial thought was calcite casts after aragonite, any help with correct identification and locality information would be appreciated,
Thanks Greg

Now the question is 'where is it from?'
Is the collection focused on a region? When was it put together? That might help

Hi James, we only got offered a small portion of it and not from the original collector sadly. A very random mix without any sort of focus or obvious era. The crystals that are broken around the edge of the piece are all hollow and the cavities are crystal lined.
You don’t think it’s from the same location as Jordi mentioned?
Thanks Greg

Greg
You said it was from an 'old collection', so I think not as I think the ones Jordi mentioned are fairly recent

Hi James, sorry for the delay I was waiting to hear from the person I bought it from. They had no more information for me other than the collection was assembled many years ago which does eliminate the ones Jordi mentioned. It might remain a mystery

Not much additional to see, the final layer of calcite has wrapped right around the specimen, here is the back of the piece and 2 edge shots one showing the matrix the other showing the calcite wrapping around from the front to the back

I suspect it will be hard to find the locality, but you never know.
