Hi to everybody!
Please keep in mind that diamond has a hardness of 10 according to the Mohs grading, but each diamond specimen takes a hardness which is VERY different from the other specimens' one. Once the diamond sclerometer was widely used by gemmologists in order to try the hardness of an unknown gemstone, but nowadays it is no longer used because it is considered dangerous even for another diamond gemstone, thus risking to ruin it!
My conclusion is: a simple scratching test is NOT decisive to exclude the unknown crystal is a diamond!
Greetings from Italy by Riccardo.

It looks like it is harder than glass but not as hard as diamond. That rules out Calcite so the acid test should do nothing.

With the crystal growth patterns, Corundum is a possibility. Where did you find it ('Arkansas' is a large area)?

Corundum is reported from Lake Catherine

Looks like a water worn piece of colorless corundum found in a placer deposit. Measured SG fits corundum and trigons on basal pinacoid faces also fits.

Is not so rare find relocated specimens far away from its origin for a variety of reasons, someones really amazing.

A specimen quite similar to Shanester piece.

That is a very nice color..mauvey, deliver me from LL Bean lol. Thank you for sharing this information. It’s similar in shape to mine, but the one I have has a shine. Almost as if somehow the neighbors on the way up polished it between each fine layer. I have a theory, that’s what is the best thing about this.

I did find some other pieces very much like it finally, after searching sapphire, but I’m not sure they have it labeled correctly (how can I be sure idk these websites). I’m not absolutely resolved that the crystal I have lost a segment, but I can’t figure it would add two with that detail, if even founded. It’s not a perfect hex. I said Oct in an earlier post I think, but that was incorrect for what it is.

I’m posting the closeups after I submit this reply. It’s interesting! Honestly I keep waiting on my darling boyfriend of five years to come in and ask for his shrinky dink back!! Ahh haha hahaha!

Adding some closeups. Still seeking a jeweler or gemologist for a final ID. Thank y’all, it’s been much fun!
